Quite a bad show too. Seen from an electoral point of view: they couldn't even become a major party during the heaviest crisis this country has ever known until WWII.

What do it tell you about a party when you can't even get that many seats during the most severe crisis this country has ever known before WWII ? Their best achievement is 4 seats in 1937 by the parliamentary elections. Just 4 out of 100 in Parliament and 44 in the Provincial States in 1935 (losing 21 in 1939). 2 seats in the Senate but because of the war there were no Senatorial elections so they probably would have been removed from the Senate.

Well although not all shining as friesland, overall sutiation looks pretty much allright. The dutch were smart as expected. But what about the north and south holland, what was their problem, if you can tell me?

The Great Depression. It totally destroyed the economic base. Of course, both Hollands have always been a bit rootless because it's so urbanised. Brabant and Limburg (minus the area around Geleen and Heerlen which drew in people from all across the country who formerly voted SDAP as they were miners and workers) were more protected due to being Catholic and the Catholic Church took up a very harsh position against the NSB as everybody joining it risked being refused communion and even excommunication.

Comparing with friesland, you know, frisians are not famous for their churches. And it has always been among the poorest regions. And still, zero seats for them.

Comparing with friesland, you know, frisians are not famous for their churches. And it has always been among the poorest regions. And still, zero seats for them.

Friesland is also very rural (even more so back then), which meant that while farmers were hit hard by the crisis, there was also more of a sense of community and no one went hungry.
