Don't make me laugh. Liechtenstein has 35000 sad habitants... A strong industrial production, he says, TROLOLOL.
Its average wage is around 6000 euros per month, of course Liechtenstein is a fiscal paradise! And the economic situation in Europe a TOTAL JOKE, for things like this.

It's because of all that Moorish blood flowing through their veins.

I wouldn't say it's relatively poor, but has prospering economy. Besides economical reasons, it's one of the most liveable European countries if your purpose is just living your life and not thinking about tomorrow.

The moment we entered the eurozone it's the moment we got fucked up, the Euro is not suitable for small european countries. Those small eastern euro countries that are growing a lot now are going to regret to have joined the euro in the future.

There is a minimum per capita income to be considered (1st world), somewhere around $ 22,500 annual PPP, but that is still half of the per capita income (PPP) of some countries in Northern Europe, USA and Autralia for example.

Chile was the first to reach the minimum to be considered 1st world. Brazil according to the forecast should achieve the minimum in a few years, but before Convid with the "facist" Bolsonaro.

HDI is not an absolute parameter, the poor of Brazil have less discipline and more family disintegration than the European poor.

Portugal is far better than most "advanced" Western countries for real. I'd love to live in Lisboa or Porto if given a chance. Because of the climate, the general standard of living, safety and homogeneity.

Plus, I read along the thread that PPP isn't reliable on measuring GDP... No, it's more fucking reliable than nominal. It takes into account the dynamic of the domestic market of each country as a whole, as it takes into account the relative price of goods and services and the inflation rates.

In Italy it was 75%, Poland 69%, Spain 69%, Greece 60%, Romania 57%, USSR 40%. The only regions in Europe comparable or lower than Portugal in Europe were Eastern Poland, Thrace in Greece, Bessarabia and southern Yugoslavia (present-day Northern Macedonia and Kosovo). Even in Sicily, Southern Italy and Sardinia it was over 60%.

Portugal's 1930 literacy rate was comparable to England's in the late seventeenth Century, France's in the mid-eighteenth century, and Spain and Italy's from the 1870s. By 1970 the literacy rate reached 74.3% of the population. Many of the schools in Portugal were built under Salazar, mostly rural one or two room school houses, and even then for most of the regime schooling was only required until the 4th grade, though this was extended to 6th grade under Marcelo Caetano.

Despite this, per capita GDP growth in Portugal was equal to or better than many of the other peripheral countries in Europe. One has to keep in mind just how far behind they were compared with their peers.

    Greece 300%
    Spain 250%
    Portugal 239%

    Spain 51%
    Portugal 47%
    Yugoslavia 42%
    Greece 32%
    Czechoslovakia 24%
    Hungary 23%
    USSR 18%
    Romania 13%
    Poland 6%

    1989-1998 per capita GDP Growth
    Ireland 83%
    Portugal 29%
    Spain 28%
    Poland 23%
    Greece 15%
    ex-Czechoslovakia -2%
    Bulgaria -24%
    Romania -34%
    ex-Yugoslavia -34%
    ex-USSR -72%
I've seen in some sources Greece had a literacy rate in the 30s of about 70-75%. As for our GDP growth, this is owned to the fact we had double digit growth per annum for 14 years by 1960 to 1974.
