Rightly or wrongly, many people - not least on this very forum - equate "the Left" with feminism, LGBTQ rights and sexual liberalism. Yet was this really true of actual Communist regimes? Most of them - whether in Europe, Asia or Latin America (Cuba) - were at least indifferent if not actively hostile to these contemporary cause celebres.

These people are totally wrong. Marxist-Communism is about workers rights. Communists teach workers to fight against businessmen who became rich on using someone's labour, and to built a collectivism-based societies with totalitarian ideology.
Feminism and gay rights movements are considered as dangerous for unity of Proletarians. Sexual freedom is also a danger for collectivism. People who equate Communism with Feminism and LGBT are extremely stupid.
So USSR, North Korea and Cuba is ideologically more Left than a movements like Black lives matter and so on.
The difference between Communist and Fascist regimes is also more ideological - they both use same methods. It's not a secret - Fascism as ideology was created by Mussolini (former Socialist) and Nazis call their party as National-Socialist and Labour. It's because Fascism is a Nationalism who use Communist methods.

Communism was about the dictatorship of the proletariat, and by extension, of the oppressed groups. Communists were very much against racism.

Nowadays though, neo-marxists have abandoned the working class, because communism has been a failure everywhere it was implemented, and where it wasn't, workers' standard of living has barely budged in decades. And so, the left has pulled out the hat more oppressed groups (LGBTQ etc) to be able to continue the same rhetoric that brings them to power. Since left's policies fell flat everywhere, the rhetoric has become downright hysterical.

That's why I specifically mentioned those other issues. I am aware that Communists opposed racism, especially in the context of South Africa and the Cold War etc.

It depends on the regime, however most would laugh, and subsequently execute 90% of these modern Leftists in the West for their ridiculous views.

Stalin's USSR was pretty Right wing socially.

Real leftism is Marxism : point blank, not these other social issues which you talk about which are subordinate to it. For instance, as far as sexual liberalism goes you need to understand the idea of the bringing in a community of women to replace marriage in Communism etc... Real Communism has never existed because the Marxist revolution is supposed to happen in an advanced industrial nation or have international support from advanced industrial nations but this did not happen : Nazi Germany and Capitalist pig America attacked (still actively attacks or subverts) Communist nations. The reason why Communist regimes were horrid dictatorships is because they were working backwards to try to build up an industrial base first.

Real Communism might be better described in it's final form as Anarchist Socialism because there is a withering away of the state. So, of course LGBTQ etc... would be tolerated but I fail to see how these issues you mention are more important than orthodox Marxism to real leftism.

Okay so the Left can encompass multiple ideologies.

equate "the Left" with feminism, LGBTQ rights and sexual liberalism.
There were leftists who supported these things right from the start (see fourier and utopian socialism). The policies however were implemented later.
Examples: Wiemar Republic (then came Hitler to fix it) and early Bolshevik regime (under Lenin and Trotsky).
Stalin under socialism one country kinda pushed some of those ideas away.

In more recent times... 1960s with what the French and Americans call the New Left during the counterculture revolutions (pushing away from labour, class struggle, economics to social and culture.)
And of course just like the "Old Left", all those movements had plenty of Jews involved (Hirschfield, Marcuse, Freud, Frankfurt School, etc).
