Carleton Coon comments on this map in the book The Living Races of Man, 1962, p. 5.
In the past there has been much confusion about the mean-
ing of race and there still is. In more than one reputable atlas still
in circulation, Finland on a racial map of the world is colored
yellow for Mongoloid— which Finns are not— simply because they
share a linguistic stock with some Asiatic peoples who are partly,
and others who are wholly, Mongoloid. No less a scholar than our
honorary fellow citizen the late Sir Winston Churchill called the
British a race. Because of their religion, Jews have also been
called a race. In a sense, linguistic affinity, common residence on
an island, and the possession of a family religion tend to impede
the flow of genetic material between groups of people, but not
necessarily to a race-forming degree. Finns, Britons, and Jews
are, in nearly all instances.- Caucasoids.
