Some reporting happening on this but very sketchy details. Boy was 17 and is in a stable condition. None of these mention the racial aspect or the details.

Cork people very angry and shocked about the incident. People have been urged to let the Gardai handle the incident and not to retaliate.

“It was a horrific incident, we are very fortunate not to be dealing with the death of someone," he said. “People are shocked, angry and concerned as a result of what happened.”

“When something as serious as this happens, people want to see consequences,” he said.

Cllr McGrath, who also lives in the area, said that the level of violence involved in the incident on Saturday was truly shocking.

“I can only describe it as depravity,” he said.

“Many of us are parents, and the thought of this happening is just unbearable,” he added.

The Carrigaline based councillor said he has also been in contact with gardaí since the incident, and that they are concerned about any retaliation.

“I would urge people not to take this into their own hands," he said. "There is a strong investigation. No resources are being spared.

    “Retaliation is not appropriate.”

This concern was echoed by Sinn Fein TD for the area Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire who said that now is a time for people to cooperate with the gardaí.

“Leave it to the gardaí,” he pleaded.

“This was an appalling attack, and people are shocked across Cork. I wish him a full and speedy recovery. It's extremely traumatic for the family.

“There is no place for that kind of behaviour in Carrigaline,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Ó Laoghaire said he feared that “people may attempt to use this [the incident] as a way to spark division” and he stressed he was against this.

Just an update that a 17 year old has been charged. The mother of the 17 year old stabbing victim said she has been overwhelmed by people's kind wishes and support.

She added: "But we are overwhelmed by people's well wishes and kindness, it has restored our faith in human compassion.

"We would especially like to thank the ambulance personnel, the staff of CUH, the Gardai, Carrigaline community, Ballygarvan GAA and my son’s friends and indeed our own friends and family. The support has helped us hugely."

The family went on to thank local Fianna Fail TD Michael McGrath and Councillor Seamus McGrath for supporting the family.

So everyone is getting behind this family and offering their support.

The State is useless and the State is useless by intent. The people might be better off letting some IRA punishment squad take care of the problem like what seems to happen up North.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

The 17 year old has been let out on bail

The teen was charged with robbery and with assault causing harm of the other teenager, who is also 17.

This case arises out of the social media incident where a video was circulated in relation to an incident at Waterpark in Carrigaline where a youth was assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone.”

Det Garda Healy said gardai had no objection to the youth being released on bail provided he met a number of conditions.

These included that he live at a named address which was provided to the court but which was not to be published.

He said that gardai were also seeking that he sign on three times a week between 9am and 9pm at a garda station near the named address where the teenager must live.
Det Garda Healy said that gardai were also seeking that the youth stay off all intoxicants while they also wanted the accused to not go on social media.

He said that gardai were also asking that the accused have no contact, directly or indirectly with three named friends whose names were given to the court but were not to be published.

He that gardai were also seeking an undertaking from the youth that he have no contact with any witnesses in the case and that he stay out of Carrigaline, Douglas and Blackrock in Cork city.

Anyway he sounds like he's going to be a big problem if he's doing this stuff at 17.

There would be a worry about people taking the law into their own hands. On of the TDs (member of parliament Dáil in Ireland) was worried about retaliation. There has been incidences of that happening in Ireland in the past. Country areas in Ireland are pretty clannish and some people know each other's family for generations. People definitely would be very angry about this sort of incident.

Carrigaline stabbing: Cork TD warns against people using ‘dreadful incident’ to stoke ‘hatred and division’

There have been calls to reject attempts by people from outside the Carrigaline area to stir unrest and promote bigotry following an assault in the town at the weekend.

Cork South-Central TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire said there was ‘genuine and sincere anger at what happened’ and added that the priority was that justice is done in relation to the incident.

“However I am also aware that there are some people using the dreadful incident to further their own awful agenda,” he said in a statement posted online.

“Some of these people had never heard of Carrigaline until a few hours ago. They are attempting to use this incident as a way of stoking hatred and division. I have no truck with that at all. People are entitled to be angry and that includes most here.

“There is terrible anger at what happened last night, which was appalling, but using it to promote bigotry is wrong and I don’t believe the people of Carrigaline and of Cork accept it.”

I actually advocate for people forming up their own squads and taking the law into their own hands. The State has long since abdicated its responsibilities - so why should it still enjoy the corresponding rights and the monopoly on violence ? In fact: I think towns should depose their councils and mayors and form up their own community council. The State has failed - let the State die.

Wake up and smell the coffee.
