I've been to Croatia with my mum, it's a nice country, I feel the funding goes especially to coastal cities which is logical. Even those small cities we were in were really clean and high end. As for the people I didn't really see much locals, I don't even remember, maybe I was in place with much pensionists. On the other hand I didn't really like Zagreb which look rather undeveloped comparing to those beautiful cities alongside coast.

I've heard it is beautiful, always wanted to do a trip around the Balkans. My father and his Dad travelled all over Sisak-Moslavina together (his home area) and the coastal cities together, they apparently had a great time.
Any "do's and don'ts" to keep in mind while travelling around Croatia?

1. Food is tasty and highest quality in Croatia, but restaurants are overly expensive for local standard. Most people eat at home. But local food places where local working class eats is cheap and food is fantastic.
Unlike in many other countries, average person can't afford to eat in restaurants on daily basis.

2. There is, finest wines, brandy, decent beer too. Croatia has great homegrown alcohol of all sorts. Prices are decent.

3. There aren't many, few casinos that exist here are shitty and shady people go there.

4. Prostitution is illegal in Croatia(which doesn't mean it doesn't exist,both high end and other sort). It should be lagalized in my opinion though.

Zagreb is richest city in CRO, with higher salaries than Budapest. I'm suprised you didn't like it as it's for me womderful city with great architecture, churches, parks and museums but maybe you didn't see the right spots and should give it second chance
