I think the OP means that people who hate homosexuals are trying too hard to show they're not homosexuals. Whenever someone is trying too hard to prove something it reveals an insecurity. For example, the Indian guy whose name I can't recall who would also talk about how Indians are better than everyone else and go on about Indians owning all the motels or whatever. No one actually thought he felt superior to everyone else. It was clear he felt inferior.

You can show excessive hatred towards something or someone because you want to remove suspicion from you.
