Lightbulb Creating a genealogical tree in Romania

Since most of my grandparents and older relatives had died and the rest of the family is scattered, I find it difficult to get information about my ancestry (from around 1919 backwards). So, I thought about consulting the Archives.
Has anyone tried to find genealogical information at the National Archives? Or at the local town halls and in the church records? How did it went for you?
Do you know of any online genealogical resources for Romania, like databases and so on?

Well, I'm not from Romania but I was in the same situation as you on my paternal side 4 years ago. I started to do genetic tests. Consulted Turkish and Bulgarian national archives many times, the only method worked for me was researching on their villages and mass-migrations connected to village histories while individual research gave me nothing. On the other hand, If you genetically tested already, try to do this process by mailing your matches which can be meaningful for you: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...tches-on-a-map Also, researching the dialects they speak is also a good start. (See what I have reached in 4 years of research which connects classical genealogy, linguistics and genetics: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...=1#post6744967)

I don't have much information on it but I have heard local Church records can be really helpful.

    Good luck with your research.

In R. Moldova, you can get this info at the National Library in Chisinau. Our staff have also provided parts of the archive to FamilySearch for digital scanning. So some records up to year 1796 are available online.

Maybe those in Romania did the same.

Wow, thank you very much for the information and the tips! Your work is very inspiring and the end result is great. Yes, I've tested both with MyHeritage and 23andme and uploaded my rawdata on FTDNA as well. I will have to try the DNA matches mailing method.

Thank you very much! Great job at digitizing the old Moldovan documents! For Romania, as far I can see, there is nothing similar yet. Hopefully there will be in the future.
