If it exists, have we experienced the effects of travelers changing the past? Is it even possible to change anything? How awesome would it be to travel 500, 1000 years into the past? How weird would it be to be your own great great great great .... grandfather? very.

If I remember correctly some theories imply the appearance of parallel universes when you interfere with the past so you wouldn't be able to impact your own present/reality

There's currently no conceivable way of ever traveling to the past but going forwards in time will eventually be possible.

You can accelerate the speed of your aircraft to near the speed of light which would slow your time down, while the world keeps running on "normal" time.
When you land people you used to know have aged tremendously while for you it was only 3 days.
In that way time travel to the future is possible.
