To be honest Florida Hispanics are more recent. While New mexico Hispanic population tend to be more older. I heard stories that the New Mexicans Hispanics weren't allowed to speak Spanish in school becuase they would get punished back in the 50s and early 60s.
New Mexico has no official language. It’s not English, it’s not spanish officially.
Many laws are published in both English and Spanish and that was the law for a number of years after statehood was granted, but that law has not been renewed since the 50’s and many laws are now only published in English.
Many government forms are available in Spanish, but it is no longer a requirement in the state to have Spanish forms.
Reality is, though, that many people speak both English and Spanish in this state. There are a lot of immigrants from Mexico who speak Spanish as well - many also speak english. You will hear both Spanish and English spoken every day in New Mexico, there just isn’t an offical language
