The UK map when it is flipped, funny how you get used to seeing it a certain way.

From the new paper on Viking DNA in Britain
https://www.nature.com/articles/s414...fbDUmKZB0Z56AE
My estimation:a English counties (named in blue font) and regions studied here, and the extent of the Danelaw, the region under Scandinavian control from the late ninth to the late eleventh century; b Extent (in red) of the predominant cluster revealed by FineSTRUCTURE analysis in the Leslie et al. study [8] of autosomal SNP data in the PoBI samples (referred to there as ‘Central/South England’)
Red cluster - Most Anglo-Saxon influence, plus notable Danish influence, especially in Yorkshire & East Midlands.
Lancashire & West Yorkshire - Less Anglo-Saxon but more Scandinavian than the red cluster, notable Norwegian influence. Less Southern continental influence than the red cluster.
NE England & Cumbria - Less Anglo-Saxon & Germanic than the red cluster or Lancs/W.Yorks, but a more even ratio of Scandinavian to Anglo-Saxon influence. Less Southern continental influence than the main cluster.
Devon, Cornwall & Welsh marches - Less Germanic, Least Scandinavian influence

Sweet but not to be autistic but human I can't help but want to know how that relates to ME. So, it would be nice to see the percentage ratios of norse viking to saxon in each region in the autosomal sense.
As far as I can tell some of the ancient Saxon samples are very Norwegian like especially the ones I cluster close to :
Distance to: Kevin_scaled
0.02772056 England_Saxon:I0777
0.02932190 England_Saxon:I0769
....
but if really break it down I'm :
Target: KevinG_scaled
Distance: 1.9624% / 0.01962356
42.8 England_IA
32.0 ISL_Viking_Age_Pre_Christian
25.2 SVK_Poprad_MA (Deutschendorf kraut)
So.... 32% Viking + 25.2% ancient kraut German would make an anglo-saxon mix I would guess it would drag the icelandic down to more continental Germanic level.
Anyway, from those viking samples and from the ancient samples all together in general I match a straight gangster viking-brit from Dorset England :
Distance to: Kevin_scaled
0.02063049 VK2020_England_Dorset_VA
Anyway, more on topic :

Genetic similarity/distance to Irish I guess
Wales & England are distinct nations, lest ye forget.
Clustering tree of British regions. This looks good.
Not surprised that Staffordshire clusters with NW England and not other parts of the Midlands, especially after all the kits I've collected. Interesting (and not surprising) that Merseyside has enough long-term Irish/Welsh ancestry now that it's split off from Lancashire/Cheshire and clusters with the Isle of Man.

Top footballer producing counties: Northumberland, Durham, Tyne & Wear, Lancashire, Merseyside, South Yorkshire
A map of Rugby Union internationals would probably be like the reverse of this image.
