Then this is pretty much the scenario I would have dreamed up: "piss off" the other partners in the press (their governments are all in on the act and let's be honest: it's totally believable since we all hate this twat over in Ankara anyway and Turkish organisations and migrants themselves are not really making things better for Turkey's fucked up reputation...), the Russians want to sell their S-400 to force a wedge in NATO, Turkey/America bite and America "disowns" Turkey "blocking military tech exports to Turkey" which makes it all seem a lot more believable to Moscow who happily take the bait and when those S-400 arrive, Turkey and America "miraculously" "reconcile" and presto; we've got their new military hardware. It would make Putin look like a complete amateur- like a fish who just swam right into the bait.

If this is the case, then it's better than any Russian honey traps. Hell...that's the kind of sick shit I would have pulled - but I am a devious cunt. I am not sure how smart NATO top brass is.

Because let's look back at Putin: did he have any diplomatic experience ? No. He was just a pencil pusher, a file cabinet rat - someone that could be relied on to the office work because he was very efficient at that. Because that's what he was trained to do as the KGB was all about intelligence gathering (because gathering any information of what could be a sign of an impending attack - they went as far as checking blood prices or the prices of vegetables in shops out in the West to see whether they could be rising indicating an attack) but their fundamental weakness lied in the application of the gathered information and diplomatically speaking the USSR, like the Russian Empire before it and Russia today, was a very weak state that only relied on corrupting key figures and intimidation of smaller weaker countries - which should explain Russia's traditional commitment to keeping things 1 on 1 as alliances are difficult to intimidate or blackmail. These fundamental weaknesses became glaringly obvious in 1983, when they had mistaken a paper NATO exercise (done by a bunch of signal troops) for a full attack on the Warsaw Pact and due to a malfunction within their own system, they were this ("holds two fingers closely together") close to launching nuclear Armageddon. It all depended on just one man not losing his fucking head... and they actually punished him for it afterwards.

The S-400 in American hands won't make much of a difference to Russia, it is already old technology to them. Russia is already installing the far more advanced S-500 in Russia...

^ I think you might be overestimating that S-500. Just like we overestimated the Pantsir (which the Israeli air force took for breakfast). Just like we overestimated the new Russian stealth fighter. All this talk about the F35 being a piece of crap. Perhaps. But if I were the head of the NATO propaganda team.. that's exactly the story I would spread. I would create mistrust within our own population and complacency among potentially enemy forces so if they would ever attack us, they would go in all cavalier... and be slaughtered. I would create stories of abject military weakness while ignoring the 20 years of military experience in offensive operations that NATO forces have under their belt (combined with the extremely high level of integration in both armament, overall organisation and intelligence). So if I can come up with this idea - then people who are infinitely much smarter than most of are - would have figured it all out by now.
