In France, Spanish is widely studied at all levels of secondary school and in a smaller percentage of primary schools. In higher education, the situation depends on the particular offerings of each school and university.

In the last three years there has been a steady increase in the number of students studying Spanish in the French education system reaching in the 2016/2017 academic year the figure of 3,255,042 students (latest available statistical data). These students study Spanish as a foreign language 1, 2 or 3 (langue vivante 1, 2, 3) and are served by over 25,000 Spanish teachers.... The growing demand for Spanish has been reinforced by the interest of a community of more than 500 million speakers, with great economic and cultural possibilities in America and, in particular, in the USA.

In Egypt there are between eight and nine faculties for learning Spanish. According to academics from the Cervantes Institute for the promotion of that language, in the last 10 years, interest in the knowledge and study of that language has grown in that country.

I don't intend to advertise, but I came across an ad from a company called Lingua Loops. They teach songs that have rhyming conjugations in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Russian, Ancient Greek and Latin. It seemed like a smart and innovative concept to me. I post it here because the ad was in Spanish:

    Teaching Spanish in Sub-Saharan Africa

Spanish in Africa, "a language with a future".

Three countries stand out above the rest: Côte d'Ivoire, Benin and Senegal. In the latter, there are more than 200,000 students of Spanish.

Round table on Spanish in Africa during the Festival Métissons de Saint Louis. (JOAN TUSSELL/ CASA AFRICA)

Nearly one and a half million people study Spanish in Sub-Saharan Africa, with countries such as Benin and Ivory Coast among the ten with the most students in the world. This book, coordinated by Professor Javier Serrano, aims to fill the lack of information about the presence of Spanish in this vast and diverse territory.
