    Training and hobbies

    Among other studies, Don Felipe attended preschool, EGB and BUP at Colegio Santa María de los Rosales until 1984. The last school year, equivalent to COU, was at the Lakefield College School in Canada.

    Between 1985 and 1988, the current monarch developed his military studies at the Zaragoza General Military Academy, the Marín Military Naval School and the San Javier General Air Academy. In addition, he is a helicopter pilot, capable of instrumental flight in the 402 Squadron of the Air Force of the Air Force, and is in possession of the Helicopter Pilot Wings of the Army and Navy.

    From October 1988 to June 1993 he graduated in Law and studied various subjects in Economic Sciences at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Months later, Don Felipe started a Master in International Relations at the Edmund Walsh School of Georgetown University (Washington DC), from which he graduated in May 1995.

    The king is a recognized sports fan in general, and was part of the Soling-class Olympic sailing team at the 1992 Barcelona Games, at the inauguration of which he paraded as the standard bearer for the Spanish team. He finished in sixth place and thus obtained an Olympic Diploma.

    THE FUNCTIONS OF THE HEAD OF STATE





    According to the Constitution, as a symbol of the unity of the State, it is up to the King to intervene in important acts of the State:

    Sanction and enactment of laws (article 62 a);

    Issuance of decrees agreed in the Council of Ministers (article 62 f);
    Appointment of the President and members of the Government (articles 99.3 and 100).
    Appointments of the President and Magistrates of the Constitutional Court (articles 159 and 160);
    Appointment of the President of the Supreme Court (article 123.2);
    Appointment of the Presidents of the Governing Councils of the Autonomous Communities (article 152.1).
    It also corresponds to the King:
    Confer civil and military employment, as well as grant honors and distinctions (article 62 f);
    The supreme command of the Armed Forces (article 62 h);
    Exercise the right of grace (article 62 i);
    The high patronage of the Royal Academies (article 62 j).

    Synopsis of Article 62. Congress of Deputies

    As a symbol of the permanence of the State, the Crown of Spain is hereditary (article 57).
    As arbitrator and moderator of the regular functioning of the institutions, it corresponds to the King:
    The call and dissolution of the Cortes and the call of elections (article 62 b);
    The call for a referendum (article 62 c);
    The proposal of the candidate for President of the Government (article 62 d);
    Be informed of the affairs of State and preside, for these purposes, the sessions of the Council of Ministers (article 62 g).
    As the highest representative of the Spanish State in international relations, it corresponds to the King:
    Accredit ambassadors and other diplomatic representatives, express the consent of the State in treaties, and declare war and make peace (article 63).
    In accordance with the provisions of the corresponding laws, the appointment of the following authorities corresponds to the King:

    President of the Court of Accounts (article 29 of Organic Law 2/1982, of May 12, on the Court of Accounts).

    State Attorney General (article 29.1 of Law 50/1981, of December 30, which regulates the Organic Statute of the Prosecutor's Office).

    Governor of the Bank of Spain (article 24.1 of Law 13/1994, of June 1, on the Autonomy of the Bank of Spain).

    They take an oath or promise before the King:

    President and members of the Government.

    Magistrates of the Constitutional Court (article 21 of Organic Law 2/1979, of October 3, of the Constitutional Court).

    President and Members of the General Council of the Judiciary (articles 123.4 and 115 of Organic Law 6/1985, of July 1, on the Judiciary).
    President of the Court of Accounts (article 21.6 of Law 7/1988, of April 5, on the Functioning of the Court of Accounts).

    State Attorney General (article 29.3 of Law 50/1981, of December 30, which regulates the Organic Statute of the Prosecutor's Office).

    Governor of the Bank of Spain.
