I noticed that a lot of European societies are going through a multicultural transformation. What surprised me was that the French people I met had their minorities integrated into society. I've met student groups who were black, mulattos; the Maghreb mixed with whites. Moreover, I met middle to upper-middle-class french who visited big American cities for internships, and many had minority friends back in France. None of these people were poor since they had money to come to America.
Meanwhile, it seems that in other societies, whites and non-whites lived separated or stick to their groups. Even if there's no official segregation policy active, the USA might lie somewhere in between where the media hypes it up as if there are all these multicultural friend groups going on. However, the reality is much fuzzier. While there are multicultural groups, there are others who stick to their own, and that's it.
