Native English-speakers: do you pronounce 'grass' and 'chance' with a short 'a' or long 'ah'?

All Australians say long-a Grass, whereas it's a short-a chance in the broad Australian accent, and a long-a chance in a more refined (Adelaidean) Australian accent.

My mother would still use the short-a for bath when I was younger, but she's dropped that now as Australians only use the long-a for that one.
