In Pashto, they're called Dam which is cognate to Domari (West Asia) and Romani (Europe). And their name (Dam) is basically slang for "degenerate". They're stereotyped mostly as entertainers (singers/dancers), but also known for other stuff like being beggars, prostitutes, and selling scrap metal similar to those in Europe. They're very segregated from society. Some of the most famous Pashto singers and dancers have been Gypsies (like Zarsanga). I heard Gypsies in Latin America have the same stereotypes, but I'm not sure.

Interesting we call them 'dom' as well. We also call them 'qaraj' but I'm not sure where that comes from.

AFAIK, lack of empathy is mostly determined by the physical design of brain. But culture does influence behaviour too.

As someone who is pro-diversity, I have nothing against Gypsies because of their race, but they must assimilate, and they must ditch their gypsy ethic. Some Roma can be decent people like Morti, but they must change their lifestyle.
