It's an unfortunate decision. Hagia Sophia is a historical structure that was built as a church, later turned into a mosque by Ataturk in 1934. After it became a museum; many mosaics and Byzantine-Christian images that had been plastered by the Ottoman conquerors were revealed and brought to surface.

Hagia Sophia was built as a church, by Byzantine people. There are many mosques in Istanbul that Ottomans built themselves. What's the point in converting somebody else's sacred place? what will this prove? no sane Muslim would approve of this; as it will only agitate non-Muslims and stir Islamophobia. Honestly; I don't care since I'm a Kemalist but Islamists are doing nothing but damaging their own religion and its reputation.

Also; this would pave the way for Israel to convert the historical Jerusalem mosque into a synagogue.

Radicalism and populism is a huge problem for the world today. I'm afraid that the third world war is incoming. And that will probably the end of all religions this time. And maybe even the world as we know it.

Our territory, our rules. Don’t see anything shameful, radical or populist in this situation. There are many religious buildings in the world that are converted into another religion’s building later, many mosques became churches and many churches became mosques after conquests. This decision hasn’t made me extremely happy like we won a war but I am totally ok with it, seeing my people upset “that much” for it is kinda... weird. I respect their perspectives, though.
