From a social pov.. both are just as bad in the rest of Europe (liberal) which is why you see a move to the harder right all over Europe.

in Romania people who support socialism are usually people with lower education, coming from less developed areas. These are the people who need constant help from the government and this people are usually very conservatives in their views, exactly because they haven't been exposed much to anything of the modern world. Liberals are the ones who support capitalism, and this are people with high education who need no help, people that can build their own lives and believe that everyone should have only as much as he deserves. This people are more open minded and more tolerant with the others.
This is the reason why right wing is targeting the liberals, in their speech at least, while the socialists are focused more on conservative ideas.

It's a bit like with the Right here: at first only those with a lower education and social standing supported them but what you see now is a general move of professionals to the nationalist right as well. So things are a bit weird, I guess.

Cracking jokes about each other is not insulting each other. You know so little about us. We "hate" each other so much that 36.000 Belgians permanently call this country home (and 111.000 Dutch in Belgium) and we can't just stop sleeping with each other (and a lot end up in long-term relationships or marriage). I have no idea how many "mixed" (we're the same people lol) marriages there are (or "mixed" relationships) but there are a bloody ton of them.
