Default Portuguese, Spaniards and Italians: which language do you use when visiting each others' nations?

    (1) English as a 'neutral' language.
    (2) The language of the country in question.
    (3) Your own language, but spoken more slowly than usual.

If in the country I visit they don´t speak Spanish or French, I speak English, in Italy i can try to speak in Spanish rather in English, if the person with whom I speak doesn´t speak English.

In Portugal I speak "portuńol"or directly Spanish, they understand better Spanish than Spaniards Portuguese generally.

But the language I used to speak mainly in foreign countries or with foreigners is English.

I suppose they can tell you better. The language are similar and fonetically pronunciation of brasilian portuguese and rioplatense are open than their peninsular counterparts.

If they are lucky they learn some at school. Here in Buenos Aires are plenty of medicine (economics is growing) students from Brazil taking all the degree lessons in rioplatense.

Meeting them in random situations, besides they are students or tourist, the language would be spanish from my side and potuguese/spanish from them.

What do you mean by 'intuitively'? You just pick it up as you go along?

I was in Galiza last February and only spoke in Portuguese. In Italy I would speak in English.
