sorry, off topic, Rome was overrated not compared to Scandinavia, at the time per se, but compared to the ancient Greeks. Romans were like an anti-intellectual thug empire that was somewhat more sophisticated than the thug like vikings but not more sophisticated than the ancient Greeks. Romans did some good engineering such as the aqueducts but other than that Greeks were way more intellectually advanced. You like to talk about Archimedes but he was from ancient Alexandria hence more Greek in the wider sense of the term not Roman.
