Close cousins of mixed Cubans GEDMATCH KITS

Many people here tend to say that cuban americans are basically recent spanish imigrants who re emigrated to miami. I dont agree, i think many if not the majority of cuban americans are typical white cubans with a lot of colonial blood.

To support this claim i compared our 475 Cuban samples from gedmatch(probably mostly cuban americans) with a new sample including only 52 close cousins of 3 very mixed Cubans (unknown origin but most likely also cuban americans) and our 242 iberian samples.


The comparison shows

1- Even though The cuban sample and Cuban cousins sample are extremely euro by latin american standards, the majority of them cant pass as full iberian. 75% or more cant pass as fully iberian.

2- Both the cuban and cuban cousins samples are extremely similar even tough Cuban cousins are close contacts of very mixed colonial cubans. So the known cuban sample probably also has a lot of colonial blood even tough its very euro.

3- Both cuban samples show significantly more amerindian than SSA. Thats a latin american trait, and impossible in iberia.

4- If this cubans with significant colonial blood are around 85% euro on average, and this close cousins of mixed cubans are also around 85% euro, and cuba is like 55% white, its pretty reasonable to think Cuba is still very euro today.

One additional interesting thing not even 1 of the "Close cousins of mixed cubans" can pass as spanish. Showing this method only finds partly or fully colonial cubans

Very interesting! I think people often forget that even before large scale immigration in the later 19th century Cuba (and PR) had large white populations. I'm sure many of these people weren't "pure" Europeans, but I assume most people the Spanish government considered white were highly Euro.

Exactly Cuba always had a colonial white majority. And if this cousins of admixed cubans are extremely euro i dont see why white islanders shouldnt be too.

No se si lo deje en claro en mi posts inicial pero la idea mia era mostrar que los cubanos de gedmatch pueden ser representativos de parte de la poblacion cubana.

Me parece irracional minimizar aporte europeo en cuba diciendo que "los miami cubans son una minoria de españoles recientes" cuando en gedmatch el 80% esta saliendo con aporte amerindio.

O cuando dicen que todos los cubanos blancos emigraron de la isla cuando en 1953 Cuba era 72.8% blanca y en 1981 era 66% blanca. Claramente la gran mayoria de los blancos nunca se fueron de Cuba

Cuba has more Whites/quasi-Whites than do most Latin American countries, but they're still very much a minority. And even in Miami, I wouldn't say an outright majority of the ones I met look White either.

Exactly, i think the method of making barplots with cousins of admixed Cubans is interesging because while their result still looks cuban, the full whites dissapeared. I think that happens because its a more colonial sample.

This cuban cousins are in the 75-94% euro , 3-16% Amerindian, 0-8% SSA range

Well judging by the photos and films I have seen of Cuba and from the discussions I have had with friends and relatives who've visited it, that is utter bullshit.
