Geneaology also shows this, part of my Douro Sul ancestry has ties to the Douro Norte, whereas others have ties to the mountains to the south - particularly in Alto Douro/Beira Alta. In my opinion Central Portugal is a bogus region that is very heterogeneous, Aveiro is very different from Guarda/Castelo Branco, and neither have much to do with Leiria, yet they are all Central.

That said my favourite part of the country is the Douro, Litoral and Alto alike. I also very much like the interior of the Minho region and Trás-os-Montes. The green, foresty and hilly areas of Beira Alta are also cool, the drier ones (mostly in Guarda, or during the summer) I do not like as much. For me flat coastal areas are boring af, the fact that they are cramped with buildings (at least in the north) doesn't help.

Edit: I just noticed only AGUIA and I voted for Douro Litoral. You don't know wtf you're missing, Cinfães is amongst the most beautiful concelhos in the whole country, the missus fell in love with it after visiting. If you like mountains, snow, forest, waterfalls and rivers you've got it all. I advise people to google 'vale do Bestança'.
The Rota do Românico is also totally in Douro Litoral
I am more surprised that you did not vote for Beira Alta, given that you are originally from there.

I'm only half that, the rest of my background is Douro and a bit of Minho.
Beira Alta is nice, but I just prefer Douro and Trás-os-Montes better. Some parts of it, especially in Guarda, are a bit flat and yellowish for my taste, kind of like the Spanish side, I'm not a huge fan of that.

What do you mean by flat? Guarda is the highest city in continental Portugal, the whole region is very mountainous.

The eastern part of the district is at a high altitude, but it's relatively flat. Only the Coa valley stands out

I am not as familiar with that eastern region close to the border to be honest. Three or four years ago I did Fundão - Covilhã - Belmonte - Guarda by car on the national road and it was basically "curva atrás de curva" through a very mountainous terrain. The more eastern I have been in Beira Alta was in Sabugal:

Yes, the South and West parts of the district can be very steep, I also went there a few years ago (I have an aunt who lives near Belmonte), but the East not so much.
Here's the view from the main mountain in the region, Serra da Marofa/Morofa

It's a nice region, but I just prefer something like this

You can research your genealogy by yourself, plenty of southerners have more northern ancestry than they give it credit for.
My paternal line is from Valença, eventhough the family has been in Penalva and Mangualde since the 1700s

Yeah true. I do think I probably have lineage from the north. I also score mostly Castille y Leon, Asturias, and/or Galicia in high rates more than, for instance, Andalusia, or other coordinates. Even my haplogroups have a high prevalence in the northern area, mostly Valladolid samples, and Galicia.
