Are most Upper-middle/UC class latinos freeloaders by American standards?(How are the UC in Spain?)

My family is Upper-Middle Class here in São Paulo. While my Uncle does have his own business and run a low sized construction group, my dad is now retired and the last thing he wants to do is to open something or work again.

It seems that America is a much more open society, but its also easy to fall down the cracks and become lost. While in Latin America, these social structures are much more fixed. This thread might not continue. We are seeing how California is adopting a more Latin American-like society where the rich have gated communities, and most of the poor live outside where there are more crime, less safety, and more chaotic organizations.

TBH, I'm sick of living in the latter kind of society. The feeling that I'm living in a fake world is hard to shake. I grew up with the Anglo idea that people are all equal, turns out that doesn't apply in a country with a modified version of the Latin American class system and a low-trust culture. (There was this survey where only 3.2% of Filipinos answered ''yes'' to the statement that ''most people can be trusted.'' I get it TBH, I've had too many bad experiences to think that. No way I'd ever try to be friends with everyone the way I used to as a teenager unless I was in a preppy atmosphere.)

I find that people here are sanguine and quick to offer you friendship, but not easy to trust. So many expats fail to realize that and get scammed.
