i think they've been stereotyped as short for a long time because nutrition standards haven't been good around the world until recently and not as developed compared to northern european/germanic countries.

Remember seeing somewhere that the average was 1.78m, that's taller than italy and the british isles and other southern european countries (minus the balkan ones). I know one spanish guy here (looks very spanish facially) and he's like 1.88m, plus almost all the castizo/harnizo looking types in Peru that i saw tended to be tall, one mexican guy i met (looks castizo) is like 6ft. My mom went to university in spain to learn some courses and she said the younger generation of spaniards are fairly tall like around the 1.8m range. Spaniards do have the highest percentage of WHG out of all other southern europeans i think.

The Irish used to be one of the tallest in Europe pre-famine. The Dutch used to be one of the shortest in Europe. In 100 years they have grown with an average of 20 cms. I think the famine had a big affect on Irish height. Irish now are increasing height again. The Dutch height gain is amazing though.

It's interesting how quickly height can change from one generation to the next based on diet alone. You can see it in Asia as they have adopted a more western diet. I think the Irish have bounced back big time in height.

malnourished individuals living off of wheat and pastry doesnt count. i was specifically referring to the younger generation because most of them actually have adequate nutrition. pretty sure almost all the older generation southern europeans are malnourished. the average dutchman is 184 cm btw
