When we speak about political forces and states in Mittleeuropa one simply can't ignore Austrian empire and later Austria-Hungary, which was last long standing traditional state in central Europe. It is necessary that memory of this great state, and even political ambitions for re-unification must be discussed again. Many can ask why Austria-Hungary is so important. There are many reasons for it and first one is that it was legimate state with clear historical succession, both from Holy Roman Empire and from Crown of St. Stephen(Hungary). While after fall of Holy Roman Empire in 1806, Germany was back in the form before Holy Roman Empire, that is very small states, separated from each other. Only German state that keep traditional and legitimate rule of Habsburg dynasty was Austria, and therefore it have clear succession.

The traditional character of state was de facto reinforced when Austrian empire was transformed in Austria-Hungary with Habsburg ruler being both emperor of Austria and king of Hungary and Croatia, with both crowns of long historical continuity. As a Slovene I also support re-union of Austria-Hungary from other view-point. Slovenia was before its unification by imbecile pan-slavic liberals, divided by lands such as: Krain-Kranjska, Štajerska-Steirermark, Koroška-Karnten, Prekmurje, Goriška-Gorz and Istra-Istria. It is correct fact that many of this lands have etnicaly mixed population, most common was German and Slovene speaking population in some lands also Italian and Hungarian. But this folk still have had shared common identity of lands which have had unbroken historical continuity from early mediavel states such as: Karantanija(later become Koroška and Štajerska), Carniola(later become Kranjska), Pannonia(later become Prekmurje). So all of this show very traditional, sort of mediavel character of Austria-Hungary.

I'm in most cases also against much of ideas of unification of Germany and Austria. I would have probably support reunion of Holy Roman Empire under leadership of Swabia or Bavaria, or even better Habsburg dinasty(it is only legitimate dynasty since Carolingian and Hohenstauffen dynasties don't exist anymore). But I'm strongly against any kind of reunion of Germany and Austria under leadership of Prussian Germany(this Baltic protestants). Austria-Hungary was like ''last man standing'' of Catholic Mittleeuropa.

No I don't consider it foreign. Slovenian lands have reached its peak under Holy Roman Empire and later Austria-Hungary, which is it's legitimate succession. While on the other hand Slovene nationalism is only inveted tradition of some ''south slavic'' folk, created under influenced of liberalism and enlightenment.

Despite in some sense Habsburg ruller was legitimate successor of Croatians kings I can understand why Croatians much dislike it, since Croatians kingdom was already well-established state in middle ages. But from Slovene view-point so called national rebirth bring nothing more than plague of liberalism and modernity.
