Welcome to the China Angle, I am Simone Gao. On Thursday, President Donald Trump issued two executive orders that would ban the Chinese social media app TikTok and WeChat from operating in the US in 45 days if they are not bought by American companies by then.
#Tiktok #Microsoft #Trump The orders do not indicate that portion of that sale needs to be sent to the US Treasury Department, which the President has been talking about for several days. This move by the president is largely considered steps towards the right direction. We all know about the massive American consumer data that tiktok has collected and possibly ended up in the hands of the Chinese government. It is simply too dangerous to let this continue. But will the Microsoft acquisition be in the best interest of America, or to be more specific, be in the best interest of the American people? Can American data still end up in the CCP hands through Microsoft? What can we learn from China where the government has control over mega data of its people? We will explore these questions in this episode of the China Angle.
