Hong Kong people to be moved inside Ireland, in a new city to be built

Even at the time it must have seemed like a truly bizarre idea. In the midst of the Northern Ireland Troubles, it was suggested that the entire population of Hong Kong should be uprooted and relocated in a new city built in the middle of the province.

While the scheme may appear too preposterous for words, newly-released files at the National Archives in Kew, west London, show that it nevertheless sparked a flurry of correspondence in Whitehall.

The plan was the brainchild of a lecturer at Reading University, Christy Davies, who warned that when Britain handed back Hong Kong to China in 1997, there would be no future for its 5.5 million inhabitants.

The alternative, he suggested, was to resettle them in a new “city state” to be established between Coleraine and Derry — a move, he said, which could revitalise the stagnant Northern Ireland economy.

It sounds like a good idea. Hardworking Hong Kongers would improve the island's economy, would help quell the trouble caused by Catholic separatist nutters and the island would thrive economically. You would get a Sino-Celtic folk.

I had a similar idea for the Uyghur. I wanted to populate the Far East of Russia with them, there are many empty and abandoned places and the climate there is good. I proposed this idea to one Uighur on the forum. He did not want to, he said that the places there are wild and it is better for them to work, to create a community in Shanghai.

It is too late. Britain knows that from now on, Hong Kong is gone. It is not the 3 million people there who would be able to change the regime in China and turn it into a ''democracy'' (something weaker and more profitable for Western powers).
China first built Shenzen city nearby HK as high tech center, that overshadowed Hong Kong which lost of its relevance, and now they are removing the semi-autonomous status of the area.

Russia and China played a ''good police vs bad police'' game in 1970's and scored wonders.
While Soviets were the bad guys invading Afghanistan, China approached the West, attracted investments and transfer of tech. In 1990, when the 200 million East Europeans were ''freed from Communist Yoke'', the US and West entered euphoria era.
They spent worthy decades raping Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq for Israeli interests, led by some Evangelical deluded dudes who believe they will bring down Jesus with such wars.

Now they try to turn the tide but....

It is insane, to transplant 100,000 people in a completely alien country! And a country with a small population like Ireland. And HK was a British colony, not an Irish colony. This confirms what I wrote about tycoons and billionaires, their money give them the power to change entire societies, and they can always find politicians who go along with their pet projects.
