A Breakfast reporter has made an on-air apology for a “misogynistic” comment he made about a woman’s appearance.

TVNZ’s Wilson Longhurst was presenting a story on Monday’s show about an Australian woman whose ex-boyfriend plastered her phone number around Cairns, advertising a fake Chewbacca roaring contest.

The woman, named Jessica, was a good sport about the prank, commenting: “If there’s anyone out there that can do the real Chewbacca sound, I might marry you.”

Responding to the video clip, Longhurst said: “What a prize Jessica is, with all her teeth and her hair...”
