The anime PLAGUE

The only virus on my mind right now is the overwhelming abundance of anime themes, memes, avatars, photos, etc on the internet. It seems to have proliferated through mainstream society which is something I never predicted. I always thought it was the purview of lonely autists in their mom's basement but apparently not anymore. How do we combat this??

How many of you are still SANE?

I would be worried if Bollywood became mainstream but some of the Japanese animation is actually great. I have never been a fanboy and had only seen some of the classics like Akira, Ninja Scroll and Ghost In A Shell (plus Dragon Ball during my youth) but during the quarantine I spent a few hours watching some series that were surprisingly quite addictive (Attack on Titan as an example).

Ghost in the Shell is a hacker or cyberpunk classic. I've only seen Ghost in the Shell and Akira.

If you enjoyed those Evangelion NeonGenesis maybe is for you, the serie is on Netflix. I think is a masterpiece of adult-anime.

Thanks for the tip, I will add it to my watch list. I enjoy the aesthetics of cyberpunk sci-fi not only in anime but in other art forms as well. There is a Mexican photographer that resides in Korea and he tries to incorporate that style into his work. I personally like it.

Glad to hear iy, i am a big fun too. I was wondering if a thread about Retrowave (Synthwave,Vaporwave,etc) + City POP(jpop) + Future Funk and all with similar 80s aesthetics would be enough popular here.

Watch NGEvangelion it involve genres: philosophy,mecha, psychological, drama, post-apocalyptic. Complex characters with german phsycoanalisis and abrahamic distopy.

PS: Most well known waifus on the 90s were extrovert: Misato Katsuragi and introvert: Rei Ayanami.

Despite the fact that I don't like NGEvangelion, I think you should give it a shot. You might like it, and it's a classic. Cowboy Bebop, if you can find it, (I think it's on Netflix) is one of the best of the sci-fi genre. It has a jazz score, which I think you will like.

I'm one of those contrarians who doesn't like NEGvangelion. I find it pretentious and too self-involved in a very unlikeable protagonist's sexual frustration. The whole anime is actually about how he wants to get laid, everything else is just window dressing. The ending is confusing and unfulfilling. I don't mind open-ended stuff, but give me a resolution of some kind.
