Jersey Shore is trasmitted in Italy on MTV channel. Thank to God, I can't see MTV on my TV so I have ignored the reality of "Jersey Shore" for years, until 2 days ago, when I went to my boyfriend's house and he HAS MTV.
I watched only the advertisement of the program and it was enough. I was going to vomit...

The protagonists pretend to be Italian and rapresent Italian-Americans. But let's see a bit who they are...

ANGELINA
Her real name is very Italian: Angelina Pivarnick! Yeah, fucking Italian.

To me she looks half Indian.

JENNY
We have an other real Italian here: Jenny Farley!

She looks a bit more Italian but it doesn't change the fact that she is as Italian as Pizza Hut.

MIKE
Mike Sorrentino. Oh, the first with an Italian surname (he has some Sicilian ancestry)... But...



If you go hunting metrosexuals in Italy you must be lucky to find someone who can remotely be close to him!!!

NICOLE
Nicole Polizzi. I know that you are thinking: "hey, an other girl with an Italian surname". But then why does she look this way?


Becouse... she is Chilenian. She has only been adopted by Italian-American parents and now she plays the role of an Italian!!!

Pauly Del Vecchio.

I like her golden cross, it goes so well with his gyspy apparence.

RONNIE
Ronald Ortiz-Magro. The triumph of tresh-ness. He is half Italian (or better, one of his parents has Italian origins) and half Puerto Rican. He is also a gym-animal but he is NOT Italian.



SAMMIE
Sammie Giancola. I think that among all she is the most Italian but still she just has Italian origins.


AND VINNY
Vincent Guadagnino. An other fellow that is as Italian as Pizza Hut.

I neither need to read his biography. He is NOT Italian as well.

I think we should make a petition against who produced this program for the trash and deviated way he is rapresenting Italy and Italians.

Blame the media

For what it's worth, a lot of New York area Italian-Americans are pissed off about the show too (including actress Alyssa Milano). Ironically, both racial minorities AND white (U.S.) southerners have put up with media caricature for decades. While a lot of people are stupid enough to believe any media image they see on TV, there's still a lot who are going to be skeptical of any portrail of a group being this way or that way (especially unflattering stereotypes).

I blame them, I thought that Italian TV was the worst of the worst but now I know that American TV is a real S***.

The Italian reaction

Producers of Jersey Shore were not enough satisfied probably and decided to shot the 4th serie in Italy, exactly in Florence.
Well, I know Florentines enough to bet that they will kick these moroons in the ass before they'll can put a foot out of the airplain. Meanwhile the first effects of true Italian culture start to appear.

The political reaction
Democratic mayor of Florence has meanwhile dictated some behavours that the cast will have to observe to shot the episodes in Italy.
The most discussed has been prohibition for the guys of Jersey Shore to be shot while drinking alchoolics in bars and public places.
American newspapers have criticized the decision of the mayor and condemned it as "too streight"!
So they always say that we Italians are too easy-going and then they criticize us at our home????
Renzi's idea was just to promote a good imagine of the city, desiring to attract tourists interested in Florentine culture, history and art, but not those who just want to come here for drinking in our locals.

Renzi, I congratulate with you. You are one of the few serious politicians of Italy!

It's not a "personal" reaction against Italy. It's typical that our media react against restrictions on free speech and free expression. Practically any restriction of freedom of expression is cried about by our press (not that they don't have a point).

None of them really look Italian or otherwise European to me at all... Pauly D and Vinny look kind of North African, Deena looks Levantine (you didn't put her picture up though), Snooki is obviously mestiza, and Angelina looks like some mixture of Eastern European and Persian.

They're more of a caricature of some Italians of Southern descent used to fit the image some American ignorant of Italians have about us, shame on them and shame on the Italian-American organizations that couldn't managed to stop the program, I'd wonder if something similar might have ever happened with the Jewish-Americans...
