I was heavily obese at 16 and was regularly told I look older than I actually was (19-20 range). This is entirely anecdotal

Your face is a paedomorphic one, not necessarily a neotenous one. Sooner rather than later it is likely age will start catching up to you and you could look even older than your real age.

Neoteny is not to be confused with paedomorphy or “baby-faced” appearance. Many adults described as “baby-faced”, usually with shorter round or square face shapes, look very different from how they looked as children, and in many cases only started looking ”baby-faced” after puberty [CLICK FOR EXAMPLE]! Such types are paedomorphic but not neotenous. The neotenous, usually with a longer oval face shape, are those who as adults retain to a greater extent the look they had as children, in other words those upon whom maturation had a relatively light effect (which also implies lower sexual dimorphism).

The difference between neoteny and paedomorphy becomes most obvious at middle age when the paedomorphic start appearing visibly worn out while the neotenous still look youthful. It is notoriously difficult to guess the age of people with Aryan bone structure.

Neither yourself nor that man you posted will age well into your 50's, for different reasons. His face is too oblong and unbalanced, while yours is too squat and irregular. Balanced oval type faces tend to be the least impacted from the aging process simply by virtue of their design. A balanced, well proportioned has less potential to diverge itself and be influenced by the aging process.

There is a lot of misinformation in that link I posted('aryanism' being an arbitrary term, anyway) however some valid general concepts are mentioned and the premise is fine (just the application is questionable).

To answer your question it is always prefered to look lean, for both men and women (although it is even more important for men).

I'm also 40 and I definitely look younger than him... But he is better looking than both of us, so touché.
