Well actually there is a massive nigh-endless war between several factions to control the world and the future of mankind. Here's a list and some generalized goals they seek to impose on us.
Now this is an incomplete list and there are plenty of groups out there trying to secure their own foothold in the world. So keep your eyes open and tinfoil hat nearby.

1. [The Illuminati] Seeks to bring true order to the world through manipulation/causing of major events.
(At odds with Lizard People and Freemasons. Occasionally works with Freemasons)

2. [The Freemasons] Seeks to control the world by manipulation of the banks and financial security of the world.
(No Direct enemies yet, occasionally works with Illuminati.)

3. [Zionists] Seeks to ensure Jewish supremacy in the middle east and generally high influence on the reat of the world.
(At odds with the Opus Dei and Babylonian Brotherhood)

4. [Lizard People] Seeks to ensure a future for their species by using Humanity as the 'store-front' to their true goals.
(At odds with Illuminati, Freemasons, Templar Order)

6. [Babylonian Brotherhood] Seeks to secure the world through technology and micro-chip tracking/control.
(At odds with Zionists and Opus Dei right now.)

7. [Opus Dei] Seeks to ensure Chistianic supremacy and lead humanity into a righteous golden age with themselves at the top
(At odds with Zionists and Brothehood. Occasionally works with Templar Order.)

8. [Knight-Templar Order] Seeks to ensure Righteous living across the world and A stable future for mankind through violent means.
(Weaken due to history and at odds with anyone who isn't a 'true' christian. Occasionally works with Opus Dei)

9. [Gray vs Green Aliens] Seeks to dominate the world to expand their interstellar empire, unsure on how to go about it.
Gray wants to rule indirectly and Green wants to kill everything and rule whatever is left.
(They don't do much so no group as moved against them other than a possible battle for the Moon)

10. [Scientology] Seeks to control the world through direct control of governments and mental brainwashing of the masses.
(Nobody likes them. At odds with all other groups.) (You were expecting the Assassins Creed thing weren't you? lol)

Conspiracy theorists prefer to make up something out of thin air, rather than question what they see as "facts". It is also called paranoid personality disorder, paranoids tend to look for something that does not even exist, and eventually they come across what they really need, they find highly qualified and experienced psychologists in such particular field, and being patients they will stay in the mental health hospital for awhile until they feel more better, safer, stable, confident and secure.
