..and in the NATO world, you're not paid to kill, you're paid to DEFEND.

Defend what? Defend not your country? There are also many people around the world who commit suicide, should I do it too?

My country army is full of "father asses" and the salary is about 800km, which is 400 euros approximality. Legion's 1500 euros look better to me. In my country, the soldier is on the same level as security in some local middle-ranged firm.

You are alwaus in any army for the same thing, to obey your superiors, and in the army, all have always a superior. This includes, defend, kill, walk,shut up ,move old used mattresses,
sweep or anything they want.

I didn't know you were actually looking for a reason.

ONE reason: to protect the communities of the world that aren't able to defend themselves. The FFL has a tendency to work in Sahara and Sahel countries, where either raging mobs or rogue armies brutalize local populations. Some people may wish to devote their lives--literally sacrificing themselves--to protect such people. That's ONE reason.
