Well I always ask myself before breakfast why the Turks never attacked the early spanish or portuguese colonies in America.
The Ottoman Empire was very powerful in the eastern Mediterranean Sea and until the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 they were trying to expand to the west.

I guess their only option was surround Africa by the south and then cross the Atlantic ocean...a very long trip.
