Yea, it can be a bridge between Europe and Asia, but that alone means that it is not truly European in spirit. Their culture, religion, ethnic ancestry etc are just too far off from the groups that make European civilization what it is. It is a bridge because we influenced it, but we cannot influence ourselves. It's part of a different civilization.
The fact that Turkey is part of all kind of European related programs and cooperations does not really matter one bit. The Turks that want to act like they are European are imo just coping. The majority of Turks don't think of themselves as Europeans or Westerners.
