It is all political. They accept Anatolian Greeks, Cypriots, Armenians etc as European. But If Europeans see them in Europe they would think they are Middle Eastern. They would be racist towards them. Some Neo-Nazis even killed Greek people thinking they are Turks from Anatolia.

Its not political, but cultural/social. Anatolian Greeks and cypriots lived in geographically asian countries but they were christian and Greko-roman, in other words what paul vallery defines as European. Did they have more asian influence than mainland Greeks and other Europeans? Likely. But not enough to associate them with asia

The only anatolian Greek population with trully anatolian/"Turkish like" phenotypes are those from pontos and cappadokia, but today they are clearly European
