Dis your history books mention anything about Western Viking colonization? From what I remember from mine, we learn that Rus/Varangians colonized Eastern Europe and attacked Constantinople before turning into mercenaries for the Emperor. A fact which is part of our lore as it uses local sources. I don't remember learning anything else at school about Vikings, most pages were about Empires.

Don't want to turn this into Yugoslavia but do Vikings even appear in Croatian school books?

Varangians appear in the 8th century as some chaotic tribes pillaging Kiev and attaking Constantinople via the Black Sea and Dalmatia remained under ERE control until the 1060s. It's not a lot of history (about 1-2 pages in our history books) but why should you as an ex-Byzantine Slav should you be more interested in "Norwegian Vikings" (aka similar tribes that happened to settle in Norway) if it wasn't for modern media?

For example, I know that Zeno didn't thumb up because he is a Nordicist and he knows that there is nothing about Western Vikings in his history books. Maybe some mention about the development of Normandy I don't remember.
