Default Sometimes I wish I believed in god

There is no going back for me now but I sometimes wish I was religious. It would be a nice coping mechanism for me when I feel down or when faced with an issue. As a non-believer I feel somewhat isolated when faced with an issue. I can't believe because it makes no logical sense to believe in a god, but I do wish one existed. I think it's also because I am idealistic and dream of a perfect world. The world can be a pretty dark place and it's not difficult to see why so many believe (especially those who are less educated and less critical in their thinking).

When I was a child I felt strong connection somehow with this feeling. My grandparents were kinda religious so I was close to the cultural side when spending time there. I wasnt really fond of praying tho. When my grandma told a prayer before sleep sometimes she made me do it with her, I did it by myself too sometimes, mostly when I felt fragile. My father is against every and any religion tho, which made an impact on me aswell. Somehow unfortunately I having a hard time to find this connection anymore, which turned me to seek faith in european spiritualism, I don't practice any rituals tho I would feel like a fucking nerd lmao.

i feel the same, im kinda conflicted on if i believe in god or not; part of me does but i also love science so i don't just blindly follow religion lol. also i kinda hate most organized religions, super religious people are fucking crazy most of the time. it's better to just believe in things on your own. also atm I'm really into reincarnation and i feel like that's the most comforting thing (for me) to think about after death bc i really don't like the idea of heaven like why would i want to be in heaven for eternity

I used to always tell myself that the truth is paramount, and that ignorance isn't bliss and I would rather know the depressing truth over a pleasing lie, but now I'm not so sure. For example, if I had 1 month to live would I want to be told or would I want to be kept ignorant and live the last month of my life in bliss. I used to prefer the former option but the more I think about it I would ultimately take the later option.

    Same here.
I decided there is no enough real evidence to believe in the existence of God when I was about 5 years old.
So I never really considered God, devil, heaven, hell to be real.
But I consider religion to be a big part of my tradition and identity.
My parents, grandparents and local community I was raised in are/were all strongly religious.
And I think it is good for them to believe when facing mortality, suffering and all the hardships in life.
Personally I do not consider existence of God to be impossible. I only consider the existence of God to be highly unlikely.
So the question remains whether I could believe in something I consider highly unlikely.
    Maybe.

And do you believe in the theory that there is nothing after death, just a great void? many scientists believe that, but of course no one has died and returned to tell about it.

I would like that too. Apart from helping me to face the world, it would probably help me to be a better person with others.

maybe, but i also believe that we're all energy and we can't be destroyed, so something does happen after we die. these are just my own beliefs that i've also done research on. but sure i mean there could be nothing after we die, just like how there was nothing before we were born

You can believe in god or in a "higher power" without being religious. By religious i mean praying every day, attending church etc.
