Nothing looks exactly like in Portugal (there are actually tons of differences) but the original influence is obvious: similar proportions, the preference for white walls and darker surrounds around windows etc.
Similar parallels can be drawn between England and the oldest parts of American towns, or between Quebec and France.

Even with colonial Brazil, part of the wealth was in the colony itself. This church has more than 400 Kg of gold in the decoration:

In Brazil you will see azujelos in every kitchen/bathroom. I don't know why.
