Occupy your mind, man... it's usually boredom that leads to snacking.
And don't listen to that stuff about your ancestors eating all day-- their energy expenditure per calorie consumed was far greater than ours. The problem is that "snack foods" nowadays are ultra-high in calories with little nutrition... and it's too easy to be lazy.
I only learned not to be hungry all day after Army basic training. 4 months with barely enough food to get by, when I came home, everything from potato chips to cookies to Coca-Cola disgusted me. With the exception of fine dark chocolate, but I hardly ever really that.
