It would be like saying that Canary islands are not a true part of Spain and therefore Canarians should not be allowed to represent Spain in any contest or competition.

Not comparable as most French West Indians have on average 25 - 45% European in them with islands like St Barth and Les Saintes being majority of European stock and Guadeloupe and Martinique with significant white people. One example is Miss Guadeloupe 2013 Chloe Deher. Whilst Japanese and Irish people are totally unrelated.
