In my humble opinion, my wedding (2010) was the best I've ever attended. A normal "Soviet" wedding, no carnival and no churches. It was not too pompous, even modest (22 guests), but very, very cheerful, without any foolishness like sweeping garbage, stealing a bride, vulgar jokes of the toastmaster and stupid competitions for guests. There was also a fight, but purely symbolic (how can be a Russian wedding without a fight?). And, in general, every new wedding I attended was dumber and dumber, despite the costumes, DJs and so on. People themselves have forgotten how to amuse themselves completely - someone need to give them fun, stir them up, get them drunk and then at least something will work out. No feedback, like hitting a wall. This is very sad.
It makes sense to hold a celebration. BUT! Look for a good toastmaster! Better from a military ensemble (my advice).
