One of the most ridiculous and back-to-front things the New Atheist campaigner Sam Harris said is that Islam "is a serious impediment towards forging a truly global civilisation". It is precisely because Islam (or rather, a substantial percentage of its followers) itself claims to be universal and the answer to all of humanity's problems that has given it its violent and imperialistic streak. If it merely confined itself to the Arabian desert, it wouldn't be such an issue. It is the very idea that there is only One Truth and One Way To Live and Think for all of humanity that is dangerous and tyrannical - whether Western or Eastern, secular or religious.

My answer:

Albania and Sierra Leone. My criteria: Muslims have no problem intermarrying with none Muslims of same ethnicity. And, Muslim/Christians exist of same ethnicities. So not Turkey, not Azerbaijan, not any Arab country (because they rarely intermarry/will result in problems)...

Central Asian countries have liberal governments, but ppl like Uzbeks are religious...same for Tunisia etc.
