you cannot compare Kazakhstan to North Africa. There is no difference between Kazakhstan and..let's say a Balkan country. I mean the cities are very liberal and the villages more traditional but still in the limits. Religion plays no role in the state politics. Now if you wanna have some free street protests then you might get into trouble.

Kazakhstan is a special case, yes I agree it is relatively modern in that sense

Countries like Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan are significantly more backwards and radical Muslims and either equal or worse than Tunisia for example
