I think though that the rivalry on the world stage played main role. After England ceased to be a global empire and its importance significantly diminished in world affairs, this phenomenon of Anglophobia somehow faded away by itself in Russia.
Well in England there has always been (and is till our days!) widespread Russophobia. Just remember the words of that Englishman, the author of the expression about the burden of a white man, who spoke very negatively about Russians: if the bear got up on his hind legs, do not mistake him for a human!
