Basically.. I think that Europe should do what the French do: leave all these whacky schemes for what they are and follow common sense. Not all of us are Switzerland or Norway.

As long as fusion energy isn't commercially ripe, nuclear fission power is the only way to go.
A couple of fission power plants generates as much power on a few sq.miles as if Belgium were fully covered with windmill farms or solar panels.

More precisely: what the French did.
At some point nuclear power accounted for about 80% of our production.
Since then this share is steadily diminishing. Because the Administration wants to please the Greens, Greenpeace and the leftist aisle of Macron's government. Fessenheim power plant, on the Rhine, was France's oldest but still perfectly efficient and healthy — it's being closed down, for ideological reasons only.

The administration is continuously reducing public investment and research in future nuclear technologies. It's a tragedy.

Nuclear energy could be an option, definitely i prefer 1 million times this than fossil fuel burn. Still, don't understimate the technology of the solar panels, they are going more efficient every new models that go out the market. Wind power is also very useful in some places like Ireland or Northwestern Spain.
