Who is lighter on average Romanians or Ashkenazi jews?

Their DNA results don't indicate any significant northern ancestry. I'm of the opinion that's it's merely a result of natural selection - they preferred lighter pigmentation because it helped them blend in easier with society.

Jewish holocaust survivors had a higher percentage of light hair and eyes then to North American Jews. Both these Jewish groups are majority Ashkenazi. Obviously if light hair or eyes helped at least some of us survive then the same could be said about various massacres of European Jews before the holocaust. Obviously being able to blend in with our non-Jewish neighbors would be advantageous should a program or some attack was to occur. Ashkenazi Jews have a fairly higher percent of light eyes especially grey eyes. compared to those who have similar genetic profiles to us

I would say Romanians. First, Romania as a country is the northernmost in the Balkans, stretching further north than even Italy. Second, Romanians have strong genetic and cultural influence from both Central Europe (Transylvania) and Eastern Europe (Moldavia). For this reason I wouldn't even cluster Romania with Southern Europe (Iberia, Italy, Balkans). Third, the main phenotype in Romanians is Carpathid, a sub-phenotype of East Europid, which they share with Hungarians. Fourth, most Romanians have very light features compared to other Balkanites, and any dark Romanians aren't gypsies but Pontids. And fifth, for all reasons aforementioned, they are on average fairer than Ashkenazi Jews.

Lies. Romania is the largest country in the Balkans so it's obvious that there is a wide range of looks from Greek to Russian. However, Russian looks are far more common than Greek looks in Romania due to the country's geographical position.
