Indonesians are lighter on average, even compared to most north indians. I guess parts of northeast india and extreme northern regions like kashmir, himachal might be about the same skin tone or slightly lighter even.

Among southeast asians, Cambodians are the closest in skin tone to indians. I'd say their average is about the same as india unless they're chinese admixed.

Here's an indonesian traveler in lucknow, UP in india. For the indian average, any uttar pradesh or bihar city would be ideal since these two states hold about 1/4 of indian population. Uttar pradesh alone has almost the same population as entire south india. UP has about 240 million people based on 2020 estimates and south india overall has 270 million. Imo he does look lighter than a lot of people, however many are also around his skin tone. since the darker indians would be pulling down the average, indians still come out darker than average indonesians. I dont think indonesians can get pitch black anywhere outside of papuan region. However papuan area barely has any people. Besides that, indonesia also has a lot of chinese influence genetically.

malays and indonesians are the same ethnic group so about the same skin tone. they just divided on colonial based history.

she looks normal malay to me. could have a little bit of influence. maybe she has some recent arab or south asian mix or something.

Indians are obviously predominantly Caucasoid, in ancestry DNA groupings Indians from the North score a high Baloch along with minor Caucasus ancestry, Ancestral South Indian is a significant amount as well but ASI in itself isn't pure indigineous Australoid Indian it is the mixture of the inhabitants of the Indus Valley who were a mixture of predominantly western Iranian hunter gatherers along with Australoid native.
