In reality the East Asian connection comes from a few individuals with Sami origin, which is not surprising. The amount of Southern European DNA is indeed higher than expected, but it generally comes from trade centers in Southern Scandinavia and Baltic islands, which of course must have had a number of foreign traders, slaves, mercs etc. The study shows that out of 182 individuals from Scandinavian locations (including the Faeroer and Iceland) 14 had at least 40% S. European blood (using Italians from Foggia as proxy for S. Europeans). They also had a significantly higher % of genes for black hair compared to present day Scandinavians.
